Businesses, both small and big, were recognized for developing a workforce that contributes to Alice in a positive way.
Juan Navejar Jr., Executive Director, presented the awards at the 78th annual Alice CHamber of Commerce Banquet on Tuesday.
The Small Employer Excellence Award was presented to Right of Way Services.
The Small Employer Excellence Award is presented to a Chamber member that employs less than 21 employees and recognizes the vital contributions made to Alice's local economy by smaller businesses. Other nominees were Adventure Moonwalk, Edward Jones - Dennis Whitley, Edwards Furniture and Alice Pediatrics.
The Large Employer Excellence Award was presented to Bowden Ford.
The Large Employer Excellence Award is strictly for organizations that employ more than 22 people. They are genuine champions of diversity and take positive steps to open up their job opportunities to all sections of the community. The recipient demonstrates innovative approaches to recruiting, retaining and developing their workforce. They set benchmarks for employers, are role models for industry and demonstrate exemplary community involvement. The nominees were also selected by the Board of Directors. The other nominees were Alice Echo-News Journal, Mi Casa Home Health, VTX Communications and EnDyn.
The Employer of the Year was Community Action Corporation of South Texas.
The Employer of the Year is presented to a business making a real investment in their most valuable assets: their workforce and community. Investing in the skills of the workforce is increasingly seen as a commercial investment decision. The recipient of this category is a business of any size that demonstrates both the passion to develop their staff, and understanding of the commercial benefits of doing so. They set benchmarks for employers, to recognize and pay tribute to those organizations which excel in becoming “Employers of Choice.” The other nominees were Brite Star, FESCO, Forbes Energy Services and Radiology Associates.
Carlisle Insurance was recognized with a plaque, honoring their 89th Anniversary this year.
