Zulema Valdez Chapa, 79, a strong woman of faith was called by the Lord on April 10, 2015 at her loving daughter's home in Loma Linda. She was born September 15, 1935 in Rio Grande to her parents, Valentin and Elvira Valdez. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be deeply missed. She worked at La Hacienda Nursing home in San Diego as a nurses aide for 18 years. She helped raise and guide several grandchildren. She enjoyed watching novelas, talking on the phone and spending time with her family and her long life companion her little dog Susie.

She is preceded in death by her parents Valentin and Elvira Valdez, her husband Florentino Chapa , one son Raul Chapa, two grandsons Michael and JR Chapa, one sister Elva Everett, one brother Ernesto Valdez and one sister in law Dora Davidson.

Zulema is survived by her daughters; Sylvia (Hector) Garcia of San Antonio, Texas, Nora (Enrique) Garcia, of San Diego, Texas, Anna (Arturo) Garcia and Irma (Robert) Rangel both of Alice, Texas. One very special loving son Florentino "Wero" Chapa, Jr. who had a special place in her heart. sisters, Sylvia (Antonio) Benavides, of San Diego, Texas and Yolanda (Tomas) Cadena of Ben Bolt, Texas. brothers, Amando (Yolanda) Valdez, of Calallen, Texas, Oscar (Sylvia) Valdez and Ruben (Sylvia) Valdez both of San Diego, Texas. 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers: Noel Barrientez, Michael Barrientez, Hector Garcia, Enrique Garcia, Arturo Garcia and Robert Rangel. Our mother Zulema V. Chapa will never be forgotten.

Visitation will begin on Sunday April 12, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday April 13, 2015 at 9 a.m. at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church.
