A 39-year-old Dallas woman was arrested Thursday, April 9 at approximately 1 p.m. after a search uncovered $105,000 in cash.

Nellie Escalante was driving a Ford F150 on Highway 281 16 miles south of Alice when Jim Wells County Detective Edward Sanchez activated his lights for a routine traffic stop, officials said.

Escalante told Sanchez she was headed to Mexico to visit family.

After receiving consent to search the vehicle, Sanchez found six bundles hidden in a natural void of the vehicle.

According to officials, Sanchez asked to be taken straight to jail because she was instructed not to talk to anyone. She stated she was told she would be provided with an attorney.

She was transported to the JWC jail and charged with money laundering. Her bail was set at $50,000 and was released as of Friday.
