Josef Allen Shaffer and Saadie Garcia were arrested on Friday afternoon after officers observed a man drinking and driving, report stated.

Officer Benjamin Belmares and Officer Orlando Jasso were driving when they spotted Shaffer on the 1100 block of East Main.

Belmares initiated a traffic stop and Shaffer pulled into the parking lot. According to the report, the two individuals were reported to be in possession of a firearm. A previous arrest on April 8, had advised officers that Shaffer was a convicted felon. Shaffer told officers there were firearms in the trunk of the car and gave verbal consent to search the vehicle.

A tin mint can was found on the dash with unknown red and white pills, report stated. Garcia took ownership of the pills. She also took ownership of three firearms in the trunk. During a check of the weapons serial numbers, officers were notified of a stolen gun from Londonderry, Connecticut.

Shaffer was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and theft of a firearm. Garcia was charged with possession of a dangerous drug, unlawful carry of a weapon and theft of a firearm.

They were transported to the Jim Wells County jail.
