ORANGE GROVE — The Sinton Pirates would have to agree, Quinton Smithwick had some good stuff Monday night.
The big, tall and hard-throwing right-hander threw a no-hitter against the Sinton Pirates in a 3-0 Orange Grove home win.
Smithwick was dominating from the start, striking out three of the first six batters who Sinton sent up to the plate. He went on to finish the night striking out 14 of the 24 batters he faced. He allowed two walks.
For the season, Smithwick improved to 4-1 with an ERA of .90.
The Bulldogs totaled nine hits, while the Pirates committed three errors.
Drake Osborn was 1-for-2 for Orange Grove and was credited with an RBI. Garrett McClain was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles.
Smithwick, Hunter Hosek, Jordan Garcia, Aaron Alvarado and Brandon Probert each had a hit in the ball game.
Orange Grove bettered its District 31-4A mark to 4-2, while improving to 9-6 for the season. The victory kept the Bulldogs in the District 31-4A hunt behind first-place Rockport-Fulton and second-place Robstown.
Orange Grove is on the field again Thursday at Ingleside.
