The annual Brush Country District Pinewood Derby gave boy scouts the opportunity to earn a patch and to compete for trophies on Saturday at Bowden Ford in Alice.

Pack 396 and Troop 270 hosted and put on the event which consisted of racing wooden cars with weight added to them.

The cars are raced on a wooden track and the car must not weight more than five ounces.

Luis Sepulveda, Brush Country District Executive, said each participant received a patch for the derby.

"This is a chance for them to work with their dads, grandfathers and even mothers. They learn about woodwork tools and learn more about science and how gravity helps the car go faster," Sepulveda said.

Although the event has been an annual event, this was the first time the event has been in Alice. Sepulveda said they plan on having the event in Alice from now on.
