FALFURRIAS, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents rescued 17 illegal immigrants from a locked tractor-trailer at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint.
The rescue occurred Monday at approximately 10:30 p.m. when agents assigned to the checkpoint encountered a United States citizen, driving a tractor-trailer in the primary inspection lane. Following a service K-9 alert, the tractor-trailer was referred to secondary inspection, which led to the discovery of 17 people hiding inside. The trailer was locked with no possible means for the individuals to exit in case of an emergency. The rescued individuals were offered medical attention but declined. They will be processed for removal. The case has been referred to the Rio Grande Valley Sector Prosecutions Office.
