Dubose Intermediate will be purchasing 169 Chromebooks after the Alice Independent School Board approved the purchase Monday night.
A Chromebook is a laptop designed to be used when connected to the Internet.
The technology will cost a total of $68,850. The money for the books comes from a $100,000 Technology Lending Grant the district had previously received. Along with the laptop, the campus will be purchasing cases as well as a device to give the students internet connection at home.
“We can control what the students access with the Chromebook,” said Velma Soliz Garcia, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Career and Technical Education. “Students won't be able to access certain websites.”
Not every student will receive a laptop. Students have taken a survey to help administration determine which students will receive the product.
