Friends of scouts gathered Tuesday morning to learn about Boy Scouts of America and how it builds character and prepares young men.

Guest speaker was former U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-California), who compared the scouts' mission with military's integrity.

“Americans held out their hands to the losers...” Hunter said. “We left the security of our own homes in America to save (other countries)....I will never apologize for the United States of America and our foreign policy.”

More than 100 people attended the 2015 Friends of Scouting breakfast at the Abundant Life Church. The annual fundraiser is a way to bring donors together to raise monies for Coastal Bend Boy Scouts of America, which serves a 17-county area, including Nueces, Jim Wells and Duval.

Eagle Scout Hunter Garza talked about his experience as a scout and how the organization has helped him develop discipline, which has assisted him in school.
