San Diego Independent School District participated in the South Coastal Bend Destination Imagination Tournament Feb. 28 with one team headed to State Competition in Dallas.

The Collins-Parr Elementary DI Mindblowers, made up of fifth and third graders, competed in Challenge E- Lose to Win where they had to build a structure that would not collapse under a 10 weight when they removed pieces. They received a Renaissance Award for their team work and placed first in their challenge. The Wild Thinkers from Hillcrest Elementary from Alice ISD got second place with Driscoll Elementary from Robstown ISD in third place.

Collins-Parr Elementary District 7 placed second in Challenge A- Creature Feature with the Destination Basses from Memorial Intermediate from Alice ISD taking first and advancing to State.

DI is a problem-solving organization where students, from all over the world, to show off their creativity and talent.Students must make and design their own scripts, props and costumes without adult interference.

Students use boxes, fabric, duct tape and paint, for example, to make their props and costumes.Students pick a theme approved by DI instructors. DI is more than students having fun. They must use their math, science and critical thinking skills to solve problems.

State competition with be on April 11.
