It was a long battle of attrition and in the end the Alice Lady Coyotes were the victors.

After losing Game 2 of their best-of-three bi-district playoff series against Mercedes early Saturday, Alice came back and won the deciding Game 3, 4-0.

Following three scoreless innings, sophomore Daisy Martinez laid down a surprise bunt which scored senior Ashley Ramirez from third.  Pinch runner Larissa Ruiz scored on a throwing error to extend Alice's lead to 2-0.  The Lady Coyotes scored again in the inning when senior Cayla Flores crossed homeplate.

Zalysa Perez, who was the hero of Friday night's game by pitching a three-hit performance and hitting a game-changing three-run homer, was also the winning pitcher in Game 3. She struck out six, but kept the Lady Tigers at bay by forcing a handful of inning-ending ground balls and fly balls.

Alice won Game 1 of the series in a 16-2 blowout in Mercedes Friday night.

Mercedes then forced a third game by beating Alice, 1-0, in Game 2. Selina Moreida pitched a strong game for the Lady Coyotes, but took the loss in Game 2.

Alice now advances to the area round of the Class 4A playoffs where they will meet either San Antonio Edison or Victoria West.
