The Freer Police Department arrested a man for possession of a controlled substance 4 to 200 grams, cocaine, after a traffic stop led to a foot chase.
On April 1, Officer Noe Saenz initiated a traffic stop on a 2006 Green Chrysler 300.
The driver of the 300, later identified as Eric Leal, had allegedly disregarded a stop sign and as he pulled over Officer Saenz noticed an unusual amount of movement. Officer Saenz then ordered Leal out of the vehicle.
As Leal stepped out of the vehicle, Officer Saenz noticed a clear plastic baggie in his hand and questioned Leal as to what the contents were.
“At this point,”said Sgt. Michael Diaz of the Freer Police Department, “Leal then took off running. Officer Saenz pursued and was able to capture Leal after a foot chase of about 20 feet.
“Officer Saenz then placed the suspect under arrest and it was identified that he was holding a large plastic baggie containing 17 smaller baggies of cocaine,” Sgt. Diaz said. “The cocaine, packaging and all, weighed about 8.1 grams.”
