Petra Rios Garcia, 87, died Thursday, September 6, 2007 in an Alice hospital after an illness. She was born in Agua, Dulce, Texas. Garcia was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Juan R. Garcia of Alice Texas and a son, Jose Angel (Estella) Contreras Jr. of Alice, Texas; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

A Prayer Talk will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Alice, Texas.

Freer—Ramiro A. Cantu Sr., 80, a longtime resident of Freer, Texas died Monday, September 10, 2007 in a Corpus Christi hospital after a long illness. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of War World II. He had a strong belief in God and many people would seek he knowledge, wisdom and advice. He was a retired worker of Duval County. Ramiro was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother that will be sadly missed by his family and everyone that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Placido and Marcelina Cantu; his son, Ramiro Cantu Jr., granddaughter Cindy Lee Flood, a great grandson Ethan Daniel Esquivel, three brothers; Abel Cantu, Eduardo Cantu, and Jose Cantu; and his sister, Vicenta Cantu.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 56 years of marriage Maria Consuelo Cantu of Freer, Texas; two sons, Hector (Alma) Cantu of San Diego, Texas and Omar (Irasema) Cantu of Laredo, Texas. His daughters , Thelma (Thomas) Flood of Freer, Texas, Norma (Alonzo) Garza of Bishop, Texas, Patricia (Gary) Kelly of Hallettsville, Texas and Brenda (Randy) Dees of George West, Texas. His twin brother, Raul Cantu of San Diego, Texas and his sister, Senona Perez of Kingsville, Texas, 15 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2007at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Vigil of deceased with Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that same evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Military graveside services and interment will follow at the Valadez Cemetery in La Bandera Community.

Premont —Mary Elva (Mrs. John L.) Lane, 86, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at a Hospice House in Austin, Texas. Mary Elva was born January 18, 1921 in San Juan, Texas, the first child of Guy R. and Mary Emma Byas Martin. A descendant of numerous Texas pioneer families, Mary Elva was member #61 of The Alamo Defenders Descendants Association. She was a member of The First Baptist Church of Premont. She was preceded in death by her husband, John in October 1998, her parents; a granddaughter, Christine Gale Teague; and three brothers, Robert Martin, Paul David Martin and Guy Earl Martin. She is survived by one son, William H. (Bill) Biggs and wife, Judy of Galveston; two daughters, Mary Frances Blain of Austin and Nancy Teague and her husband, Tommy of Premont; five grandsons, Tony (Micki) Teague of Portland, Milton (Robyn) Teague of Natalia, Ronny (Michelle) Biggs of Santa Fe, Texas, David Biggs of Galveston and Randy (Monica) Blain of Arlington; two granddaughters, Amy Jo (Mike) Gandy of Austin and Amber (Josh) Hibbard of Premont; 18 great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren; one sister, Pauline Baxter of Haskill; two brothers, Melvin Martin of Edna and Ewell Mitchel (Janett) Martin of Alice; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Martin of Woodville and Pat Martin of Austin; one aunt, Mrs. Milton (Mary Edith) Byas of Zapata; and a dear friend, Barbara Biggs of Galveston. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitations will be Wednesday, September 12, 2007 from noon to 9 p.m. at Holmgreen Mortuary in Alice. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2007 at the Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Her grandchildren will be the pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Hospice program, the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.

He is survived by an ex-wife and longtime friend, Sally A. Garcia; two sons, Omar Garza Jr. and Roberto Joel Garza; one daughter, Virginia C. Garza; his mother, Maria Emma Garza; two brothers, Nick Garza Jr. and Jose Manuel Garza; and three sisters, Mirna Quintanilla, Sylvia Maldonado, all from Falfurrias and Monica Morante of Waco, Texas.

Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at Alaniz Funeral Home in Falfurrias, Texas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias, Texas. Burial will be in the Falfurrias Burial Park, Falfurrias, Texas.

Fernando Nieves De La Rosa, 66, from Kingsville passed away on Monday, September 10, 2007 in Corpus Christi.

His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Nieves (Elida) De La Rosa.

He was retired from the City of Kingsville.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Olga E. De La Rosa; one son, Robert (Ana) Ortegon of Bacliff, Texas; four daughters, Debbie (Jorge) Hernandez, Tina Ortegon, both of Kingsville, Texas, Yolanda (Rey) Tijerina of Ricardo, Texas, Glenda (Napolean) Deveaux of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister, Norma (Francisco) Gonzalez of La Porte, Texas; one brother, Noel De La Rosa from Kingsville, Texas; 15 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitations will be on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 from 12 to 9 p.m. A Rosary will be held at the Ramirez-Salinas Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral Mass is Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Martin Catholic Church with Father Joe Torres officiating. Burial will follow at Chamberlain Cemetery.
