Ben Bolt - Myrenda Fassnacht, 10, set out to do what only a few can brag about - she mastered a perfect score on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test in all of the portions of the test.

The Ben Bolt elementary student said her love for reading is what contributed to her proficiency of the test.

"I am really happy," said Myrenda, a fourth-grade student at Palito Blanco Elementary School. "I also scored a perfect score in the reading (test) last year."

Myrenda said her favorite books to read are the Harry Potter series.

"My favorite series is the Harry Potter series," she said. "I have read them enough times that they are falling apart."

She said she has read the series about five times. The series consist of six books on the adventures of Harry Potter.

Myrenda scored a 2682 in her math, 3059 in her writing portion of the TAKS, a 2629 in reading and in the writing portion of the composition scored a four, all perfect scores according to her principal.

Her mother, Dalayna Tunchez, said Myrenda is a self-motivator.

"She puts in a lot of effort all of the time and does her best all the time," said Tunchez, who is a fifth-grade teacher. "I don't have to worry about her homework, she does it before I'm done with tutoring. She also reads a lot and I think that makes a big difference as far as vocabulary and everything."

Besides the reading, Myrenda also is a an avid writer.

"She does a lot of writing," Tunchez said.

"She and her sister like to write stories at home just for fun."

Myrenda said that besides reading, she enjoys crafts and wants to be a pastry chef when she grows up.

"I like to make stuff out of paper and I like to bake," she said. "I made zucchini bread with my sister."

Along with her academic achievements and being a straight 'A' student, she enjoys playing soccer and softball.

She said the best advice was from her mother.

"Try your best," she said.
