NEWAYGO, Mich. - Elsa G. Nicholes, 45, of Newaygo, Mich., a former resident of Alice, Texas, passed away following a short illness on Monday, May 14, 2007 at the Transitional Health Services in Fremont. Elsa was born on January 27, 1962 in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Efrain and Beatrice (Mata) Guerra Sr. and moved to the West Michigan area in 1980 from Alice, Texas. Elsa met and married Floyd Nicholes on December 19, 1981 in Shelby, Mich. Floyd preceded her in death on February 26, 1997. Elsa had worked at the Gerber Life Insurance Company in the customer service department in Fremont for 17 years and currently was employed by Donnelly Corporation in Newaygo. Elsa was a member of the Newaygo County Victim Services Unit, member of the Newaygo County Sheriff's Posse and Fremont Moose Lodge Auxiliary. She also taught school at the Croton Day Care for the past several months.
She was greatly loved as a mother, wella, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She is survived by her fianc/, Otis Madden of Louisiana, Mo.; her son, Michael Jerome Guerra (Angela) Nicholes of Bailey; stepdaughter, Cyndi Lynice (Nicholes) Bufford of Twin Lake; her grandchildren, Michael, Dixie, Zackarie, Mackenzie, and Gage Nicholes; and Danny and Samantha Mudge; her mother, Beatrice M. Garza of Alice, Texas; her brother, Efrain (Maria) Guerra Jr. of Rothbury; Edna (Eliseo) Neira of San Antonio, Texas; Elva (Chris) Perez of Alice, Texas; Irma Garza of Alice, Texas; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd and her father, Efrain Guerra Sr.
Visitation will be Friday, May 18, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fremont Chapel at Crandell Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Crandell Funeral Home, Fremont Chapel with interment to be at Middle Branch Township Cemetery near Cadillac.

ALICE, Texas - Refugia G. Rivera, 80, died May 13, 2007 in an Alice nursing home after a long illness. She was a housewife. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fernando and Nicolasa V. Gonzalez, and two brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Juan C. Rivera of Alice, Texas; six sons, Manuel R. (Estella) Rivera of Alice, Texas, Daniel Maria Rivera of Ben Bolt, Texas, Miguel Connie Rivera and Juan Ismael (Hilda) Rivera, both of Alice, Ernesto (Linda) Rivera of Palito Blanco, Texas, and Eligio Rivera of Allegan, Mich.; two daughters, Mary Ann (Allen) Hearn of Otsego, Mich., and Virginia Gonzalez of Ben Bolt, Texas; five brothers, Guadalupe (Alicia) Gonzalez, Andres (Hortencia) Gonzalez, Salvador (Esmeralda) Gonzalez and Cecilio (Lydia) Gonzalez, all of Alice, Texas, and Rafael Darleen Gonzalez of Corpus Christi, Texas; four sisters, Paula (Neal) Smith of Dallas, Texas, Oralia Lopez and Angelina Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Texas, Fernanda Cavazos of Agua Dulce, Texas; 32 grandchildren of 41 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchildand numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2007 and a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. that evening at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home Chapel in Alice. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 17, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Alice. Burial will follow at Roberson-Collins Cemetery in Alice, Texas.

ALICE, Texas - Amantha Yarbrough, 48, of Alice, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2007. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Yarbrough; and a cousin, Victor Munoz.
Survivors include her father and step-mother, Henry and Margarite Yarbrough of Mathis, Texas; one son, Joseph (Patricia) Guerra of Alice, Texas; and a daughter, Joann (Ralph) Lopez of Alice, Texas; five brothers, John (Mary Sue) Yarbrough of Alice, Texas, Henry Yarbrough Jr. of Pasadena, Texas, Jack (Carol) Yarbrough of Goliad, Texas, and George and Charles Yarbrough of Alice, Texas; six grandchildren, Jose and Angelique Guerra and Savannah, Carlos and Celest Lopez, all of Alice, Texas; two uncles, Jesse Cruz and Bobby Cruz of Alice, Texas; and one aunt, Elida Fernandez, also of Alice, Texas.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2007 with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening at Ruben M. Garcia and Sons Funeral Chapel. There will be no funeral service.
