Leonel R. Garza, 82, passed peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 16, 2022. He was a 1959 graduate of Benavides High School and a Veteran with the U. S. Marine Corps. Leonel was a Real Estate Agent, Ranching Consultant, and the Founder of the Muy Grande Deer Contest which began in Freer, Texas in 1965. He published several books and produced several hunting videos with the first named, “The Legend of the Muy Grande.” He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elda G. Garza, five daughters Leticia (Jorge) Escobar, Nori (Eddie) Tamez, Noelia (John) Paniagua, Elsa (Lloyd) Navarro, Imelda (Kenneth) Sharber, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Graveside Service and Interment will be held at 2:15 p.m. at Memory Garden Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.
