Sotero G. Alviar, age 89, passed away December 24, 2022 in Alice surrounded by his family.  He was born April 22, 1933 in Alice, Texas to Simon and Elvira Alviar.  Sotero enjoyed traveling to many different casinos, camping, and attending the greyhound dog races.  He was also an avid baseball fan who loved the Houston Astros.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Elvira Alviar; grandchildren, Aaron Aziel Garza and Jo Dana Alviar; siblings, Esperanza Alviar Longoria, Tomas G. Alviar, Abelino Alviar, Simon Alviar, Jose Angel Alviar, and Consuelo Gonzalez. 

Sotero is survived by his wife of 66 years, Aurora Alviar of Alice; five children, Sotero Alviar Jr. (Sandra) of Alice, Simon Alviar of Alice, Neomi Alviar Garza (Lupe Jr.) of Alice, Mario Alviar (Mona) of Corpus Christi, and Roel Alviar (Maria Dolores ) of Alice; 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 31, 2022 from 11:30 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. at Rosas Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary to be held at 12:30 p.m.  A funeral mass will be celebrated December 31, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Burial to follow at Roberson Collins Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be Alaina Alviar Sisserson, Matthew Garza, Mario Alviar Jr., Roel Alviar Jr., Jacob Alviar, and Shane Alviar.
