Elda Perez Chapa, 83 years of age, was called by the Lord on Friday, June 10, 2022 in an Alice hospital after a sudden illness. She was born in Concepcion, Texas on October 8, 1938 to Fidel C. and Cecilia E. Perez. She was a 1956 graduate of Benavides High School and a 1960 graduate of Texas A & I Kingsville where she received her bachelor’s degree. Elda was an educator/teacher for both San Diego ISD and Benavides ISD and retired after 38 years of employment. She was an active member of Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church and attended church daily. Elda was a loving mother who dedicated her life to her only son, David Michael and always very involved in his school athletic activities. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years of marriage, Reynaldo Chapa Jr.; her parents, Fidel C. and Cecilia E. Perez; brother, Fidel J. Perez, Jr.; Maria Dolores Palacios.
Elda is survived by her one son, David Michael (Alicia) Chapa of Alice, Texas; four step grandchildren, Jessica Nicole (C.M.) De La Vega, Albert (Bethany) Ramirez, Carla Garcia (Manuel Soliz), Raymond Garcia (Madeline Escalante); six step great grandchildren; two sisters, Mercedes I. Perez Yzaguirre of Corpus Christi, Texas and Guadalupe Perez Utley of Concepcion, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Anita Perez and Hilda Gonzalez; brother-in-law, Eloy (Mary) Chapa; numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we will be following all CDC and Government mandates and ask each guest to do so as well. We ask everyone to follow social distancing and wear masks inside the funeral home and church.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, June 13, 2022 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Santa Rosa De Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, Texas. Interment will follow at the Benavides Cemetery.
