On Tuesday night, April 1, 2025, at the Lady Coyote Softball Complex, Coach Janay Gonzalez celebrated a significant milestone in her career as the head coach of the Alice Lady Coyotes. With a 20-10 victory over CC Ray, Coach Gonzalez picked up her 175th win, a remarkable achievement that reflects her dedication, leadership, and passion for the game.
The victory was a team effort, with senior pitcher Brooke Castillo playing a crucial role in the game. Castillo registered her 100th strikeout during the match, further adding to the excitement of the evening. The stands were packed with fans, as the community showed their unwavering support for the team and the coach who has been a constant source of inspiration for many.
Coach Gonzalez, who has been at the helm of the Lady Coyotes for several seasons, expressed her gratitude for the support of her family, friends, and the entire Alice community. “I can’t thank my parents enough for their full-fledged support throughout my coaching journey,” Gonzalez said. “They’ve always been there for me, and I think very highly of them. This win is as much theirs as it is mine.”
Coach Gonzalez also praised her players for their dedication to the sport and the city of Alice. “I’m so proud of the effort and commitment this team has shown,” she said. “These young women are not just playing for themselves, but for the entire community. They embody the spirit of Alice, and their hard work is a testament to the values we hold dear here.”
The win, along with the historic strikeout from Castillo, marked a special night for the Alice Lady Coyotes who now improve to 10-16 overall and 6-6 in district, currently sitting in fifth place. As the team moves forward in the season, the community continues to rally behind them, cheering on the athletes who have become symbols of pride and perseverance in Alice. With a strong and supportive fanbase, Coach Gonzalez and the Lady Coyotes are poised for continued success on and off the field.
