Officers with the Alice Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls on Monday, Feb.17 from Esperanza St. around 11pm.
According to reports, when officers arrived at the scene, they intended to talk to the male resident, but the man pointed a rifle at them after opening his curtains from inside the house. The police officers ordered the man to lower his weapon. The man refused causing an officer to discharge his weapon in self-defense and hit the man.
He was then transported to Alice Christus Spohn Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
According to a press release statement from the Alice Police Department, the weapon recovered from Esperanza St. was a 30-30 rifle.
This recent incident is being investigated by the Texas Rangers.
