The statement posted Wednesday, Feb. 5 was later deleted from the Alice ISD social media page. The letter warned the parents and guardians that the U.S. Border Patrol agents may be boarding school buses at highway checkpoints in and out of the valley to question students about their citizenship status.
Superintendent Anysia Trevino stated that they strongly encourage families to be aware of the potential implications of those encounters.
She also stated in the letter to ensure that families are fully informed they would be reviewing the student travel waivers and may include language advising parents and guardians of this possibility.
The Alice Echo-News Journal has reached out to the district regarding the letter and was told that they will release a statement by the end of the day today, Thursday, Feb. 6.
