At its regular meeting on Friday, Sept. 12, the Jim Wells County Commissioners Court approved a burn ban effective immediately, citing increasingly dry conditions and the need to protect both the public and first responders.

The decision was made during the commissioners’ court meeting inside the county courtroom. County Judge Pete Treviño urged residents to stay vigilant and to do their part in preventing wildfires.

“Let us all work together to prevent wildfires during this dry season. Be safe. Be cautious,” Judge Treviño said.

The county reminded residents that open burning is prohibited under the ban and encouraged everyone to practice fire safety until conditions improve.
