The City of Alice Emergency Management is reminding residents to stay safe during the extreme South Texas heat by learning the difference between heat stroke and heat exhaustion.

Officials noted that many people are often confused between the two, but understanding the signs could save lives.

Heat exhaustion can include heavy sweating, weakness, dizziness, nausea, and muscle cramps. If not treated, it can progress to heat stroke, a serious medical emergency marked by a high body temperature, confusion, loss of consciousness, and lack of sweating.

Emergency Management urges the community to take precautions by staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous activity in peak heat hours, and checking on vulnerable family members and neighbors.

“When in doubt, seek medical attention immediately,” officials added. “Recognizing the signs early can make all the difference.”
