The Alice Coyotes suffered a tough loss on the road to the Ray Texans, falling 4-3 Tuesday night, April 8 in a nail-biting game. Despite leading 3-1 after a strong offensive showing in the top of the fourth, the Coyotes couldn’t hold on as the Texans exploded for three runs in the bottom of the fifth to seal the win.
The Coyotes’ defense and pitching kept them in the game, with Nick Lopez starting on the mound for Alice. He pitched four solid innings, surrendering only three hits and one run. Ale Asevedo finished the game, giving up three hits, three runs (two earned), two walks, and striking out four.
This defeat puts Alice at a 7-5 record in District 29-5A, keeping them in the playoff race but with little room for error. The Coyotes are now looking ahead to their next challenge as they face Calallen on Friday, April 11 in a non-district game. They will need to regroup quickly to stay competitive with tough games next week against district foes Flour Bluff and Gregory Portland.
