The Alice High School Unified Sports track and field team has earned a spot at the regional meet at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, after an impressive victory at the area meet at Texas A&M University–Kingsville. The team’s excitement and energy were palpable as they competed for a chance to advance to the state Unified Sports meet.

Alice ISD Athletic Director JR Castellano shared his pride in the team’s performance, stating that the athletes’ confidence is at an all-time high. “They support each other like no other,” Castellano said. “Their confidence is at another level, and they’ve really caught my and the rest of the community’s heart with their type of performance and excitement they possess. It’s inspiring to see such genuine relationships being built between athletes, both with and without intellectual disabilities.” Castellano emphasized how the team has fostered an atmosphere of unity and support, creating lasting bonds that transcend the competition.

Coaches Acosta and Cox were also praised by Castellano for their dedication and hard work in preparing the athletes for the challenges ahead. “Coaches Acosta and Cox have done a fantastic job with this team,” he added. “The athletes have grown so much, both as individuals and as teammates, and it’s incredible to see how they’ve come together.”

Looking ahead to regionals, Castellano acknowledged the tough competition. “At regionals, there will be seven teams, and only four will advance to state,” he explained. “But what makes Unified Sports so meaningful is that the athletes advance as a team, not as individuals. It’s about supporting each other and working together to reach that next level.”

With their unwavering support for one another and the leadership from their coaches, the Alice High School Unified Sports track and field team is primed and ready for the regional meet, hopeful for a chance to continue their journey to the state competition. The excitement is contagious, and no matter the outcome, the team’s bond and spirit will remain stronger than ever.
