It was a crisp Friday afternoon at the Coyote Baseball Complex and the stands were filled with excited parents, students and alumni all eagerly watching as the Alice Coyotes faced their rivals Gregory-Portland Wildcats (G-P) in a pivotal district 29-5A game.
From the moment Coyote pitcher Robert Ramirez took the bump, it was clear that he was locked in and after the first couple of innings he showed no signs of slowing down and Alice improved to 9-10-1 overall end evened their district record to 3-3 with an 8-3 win. As the game progressed, Ramirez’ dominance on the mound became even more evident. His teammates fully aware of his potential, supported him with great defense.
The Coyotes came out swinging and making contact for a 4-run bottom of the first inning, 2 runs in the second and 2 more in the fourth. Emede Lozano, Luke Fuentes, Robert Ramirez crossed home plate twice and Maddex Carrillo once for all of the team’s runs. Ramirez finished tossing a complete game with 8 hits, 3 runs, 1 ER, 2BB and 7 Ks.
The crowd erupted and the Coyotes swarmed the pitcher’s mound in celebration. Shortly after, the team huddled together celebrating their victory, but it was clear that this win wasn’t just about the score. It was about the team’s unity and Robert’s incredible performance. A pitcher’s complete game in a high-pressure “must win” situation, a memory that will live on long after the season ends.
Alice will be at CC King Tuesday, Mar. 25 for an 8pm first pitch for the first meeting between both Coyotes and Mustangs in 29-5A.
