Three lifters are headed to the State Championship in the RAW division for Alice ISD. Deidra Chapa, Payson Trejo and Brooke Castillo are looking forward to competing and have fun at the state meet.

After claiming the first reginal championship in school history, these young ladies are staying focused and motivated to wreak havoc on the big stage down in the valley.

In the 97-pound-weight division Deidra Chapa is on a mind-blowing comeback trail after suffering a potential sport ending injury to others, but not this lady coyote.

“This season has been challenging for me after having surgery to repair my ACL but I’m grateful overall. I’ve had to overcome challenges because of my injury right before regionals last year but my comeback season has been an original one. I would like to thank both of my parents for their support but specifically my dad. I would not be going to state if it weren’t for him spending countless hours in the gym with me,” said Chapa.

The freshman in the 114-pound weight class Payson Trejo is always thinking positive.

“Right before my lifts I fill my mind with music and real good thoughts that assure me that I can do the lift. My brothers also make me a good powerlifter by being a real good support system pushing me to be better and even telling me when I can or can’t have a snack,” Trejo said.

Castillo has a chance to duplicate last year’s accomplishment and is ranked #1 and Chapa is #4 going in. Both Brooke and Deidra are in the 97-pound-weight class. Payson Trejo is in the 114-pound-weight division.

“All this is very unexpected because I never thought I would do this sport. The feeling of having all this support and pushing myself mentally and physically is an amazing feeling. I am pushing myself a lot more this year making me mentally stronger. I want to thank my family and friends for their support,” she said.

These Lady Coyote Powerlifters had a send-off Wednesday, Mar. 12 at 1pm that started at the Alice High School marching pad.
