It was a special moment for those coming together at Anderson Park Saturday morning, Mar. 8 honoring four young men that will never be forgotten. Tables of remembrances for each were set up by families and friends with pictures,
Kanyon Alegria, Ruben Gonzalez, Noam Ortiz and Julian Reyna tragically lost their lives in an accident as they made their way home through dense fog.
The 4K Forever Friends Scholarship Drive had over 90 registrations to participate in this year’s event. The weather was great, and the turnout was even better.
Organizer Veronica Reyna said this event is very important to the families involved.
“This run/walk helps us keep our kids memories alive. We give out scholarships to local Alice high School students and in the three years since its creation, we have given out over twelve-thousand-dollars in scholarships that help students take their next steps in their educational endeavors,” said Reyna.
Reyna and the rest of the families of the four young men are grateful to the community that has always been showing support to the scholarship drive.
The impact of these scholarships serves as a reminder that just like the boys were known for their kindness and generosity, this event in their honor shows the caring hearts associated with the willingness to give back and leave a long-lasting legacy.
