Alice Mayor Cynthia Carrasco officially filed paperwork to run for re-election in the 2025 mayoral race. Carrasco, who’s been serving since May of 2021, is seeking another full four-year term as the city’s top elected official. The incumbent mayor will face at least one challenger in the upcoming election: former city council member Ron Burke.
What led the mayor to seek re-election?
“I’ve been working hard meeting with our legislators, congresswoman and senators trying to get them to not forget about our rural areas, Jim Wells County and the City of Alice. I’ve been privileged and honored to be invited to the American Fled coalition. I was there to sponsor the South Texas Region and got to meet with Senators John Cornyn, Ted Cruz and Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz,” Carrasco said.
Carrasco said this hard work in the office is not done by one person. It takes a group effort.
“We’ve done so much in the last three and half years, but I feel there’s still so much work to be done. I thank everyone in Alice for their support because I couldn’t do all this without the support of our citizens, the staff and administration,” said Carrasco.
Carrasco went on to say that she couldn’t be prouder of the people working at city hall and the community for their support. What makes her different than others for the mayor role?
“This position opens other doors, and I want to continue to get Alice to the forefront. I want people to know about the City of Alice. I want them to bring industry here. I want them to bring their development. We’re here. We have land and buildings. We have so much potential,” she said.
The mayor said that she is currently working on something through the governor’s office that’s important and will be good for the community.
Early voting is from Tuesday, Apr. 22 to Tuesday, Apr. 29. Election Day is Saturday, May 3.
