Jim Wells County Commissioner Precinct One George Aguilar is concerned with all the illegal dumping going on in parts of the Rancho Alegre community. Over at the back end of the retention pond area that was made three to four years ago on South Johnson Street, people gained access to the area and unloaded debris that now blankets the area.

“Precinct One taxpayers are going to be responsible for cleaning up this mess. It costs money because of manpower, landfill fees when all they could have done was take to the landfill themselves instead of dumping illegal,” said Aguilar.

The commissioner thanks those people that gave precinct one a call for the heads up on the unlawful act.

“We need to continue to tell the public and residents to keep vigilant about problems like this so we can stay on top of it and prosecute those that commit these acts,” Aguilar said.

From construction material to tires, furniture and kitchen appliances surround the area.

Down Eva Street a pile of illegal trash adorns the side of the road. Illegal dumping is a fire hazard and has many negative effects on the environment. It’s considered a misdemeanor and those caught could also possibly face some jail time. Aguilar says it’s an eye soar looking at all of the mess.

“They would rather throw them illegally than pay the landfill fee. We need to take responsibility for our own actions on trespassing and disposing of trash unlawfully. If you don’t know where to dump, if you have doubts or questions, call our office 361-668-6753 and we’ll guide you in the right direction. We’ll tell you what we can pick up and what we can’t. I’m asking for your help as your county commissioner to tip us off of any future illegal dumping that’s occurring in our precinct or county, we’d really appreciate that,” he said.
