Coaches Savannah Albiar and Humberto Garcia are super excited with what they have accomplished this season with the boys and girls swim teams. Having the boys relay team advancing to the State Meet is the icing on the cake.

“It was my first year to be part of the swim team at regionals and the experience was great. There was a lot of competition and just watching those other teams operate was a learning experience for us coaches and athletes,” said Garcia.

The Class 5A UIL State Swim Qualifiers will have a red carpet send off Thursday, Feb. 20 at 11:35am beginning in front of the high school.

Coach Albiar has been at that stage before, but those butterflies still linger around.

“It’s more than butterflies. It’s something more and indescribable. I get shaky and scared but making sure they’re ready to go at the same time,” she said.

The 200 Freestyle Relay Team of Wesley McIntyre, Jason Molina, Jose Salinas, Ayden Galvan and Nikolas Deleon are Austin bound Feb. 21-22 looking forward to the challenge.

Consistency is a big factor when it comes to swimming, says McIntyre.

“Yes, it’s with your technique, your swims and with everything you need consistency especially off the block, your times, relays everything,” he said.

Galvan liked the way things were this year. The difference it all was from his old school. Molina said he stayed motivated knowing that he and the team could make it to state. Deleon is excited being there for his team cheering them on and making sure they’re ready.

They are best preparing and can’t wait until the day to give it their go and good sportsmanship.

The boys are ready to go and represent the community of Alice in Austin. The environment will be different but they are immune to big dances and can’t wait to bombard the big stage with their goals and motivation.
