The pre-game guest speaker was Coach Tracy Zamora and that in itself, will get anyone ready for some basketball. The setting was Teacher Appreciation Night, and they were out in numbers for the honor.

The band was blasting, the cheer squad and strutters were like art in motion, graceful and majestic.

Gregory-Portland (21-14) (9-6) was in town for a District 29-5A showdown, and the hardwood floor was ready for it.

The Lady Coyotes (22-11) (10-4) hustled throughout the game being beasts on the boards working the paint and being major catalysts with outside shooting. The girls seemed unstoppable and completed a seven-point win over the Lady Wildcats, 43-36.

Coach Mari Santos and the girls find themselves in third place behind CC Moody and Flour Bluff with two games remaining.

Alice splits the season encounter with G-P after the Lady Wildcats took a 52-66 decision back on Dec. 20. The Lady Coyotes will prep for King Jan. 31 in Corpus Christi and finish off at home with a thriller against CC Moody, Feb. 4.
