Carmen Vela, age 69, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born March 17, 1953, in Alice, TX to Andrea S. Charles. and Lauro Charles, Sr. She was a God-fearing woman who loved attending church and reading scripture daily. She was a faithful member of House of Prayer under the direction of Pastor Jose Cervantes. She was always wanting to share God’s word with everyone and always ready and willing to help anyone who needed it. She retired after 25 years of employment at Retama Manor Nursing Center. She was a renal cancer survivor. She loved spending her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the literal picture of “Faith, Hope and Love”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lauro Charles and Andrea S.Charles; brother, Santana Charles; and sister, San Juanita Cantu.
Carmen leaves behind to cherish her memories, her children, son, Matin J. Vela of Alice,TX, her twins, Melissa Garcia of San Diego, Michelle Maldonado (Javier) of San Diego, and Yvonne De La Garza of Lake Jackson; siblings, Lauro Charles Jr. (Maria) of Alice,TX, Richard Charles (Diane) of Corpus Christi, TX and Adan Garcia Jr. (Norma) of Alice, TX; sisters, Sylvia Saenz (Adan) of San Antonio, TX and Yolanda Arias (Jaime) of Robstown, TX; grandchildren, Brittany Nicole Vela, Zachery Martin Vela, Michael Anthony Garcia (Angelica), Rebecca Nicole Garcia, Alyssa Renee Garcia, Joshua Sebastian Moreida, Javier Maldonado Jr., Amberly Vasquez, Michael De La Garza Jr., and Marlaina De La Garza; greatgrandchildren, Michael Ryan Garcia, Jacob Anthony Olivarez, Roman Adalberto Garcia, and Josaiah Noe Sanchez; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation was held Thursday, December 22, 2022 from 5 till 9 p.m. at Rosas Funeral Home Chapel with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service was held Friday, December 23, 2022 at 10 a.m. at Rosas Funeral Home. Burial followed at New Collins Cemetery.
