Edalio S. Salinas was born from the union of Eliseo Salinas and Octavia S. Salinas in Concepcion, TX and graced our precious world for 91 years, from August 16, 1931, to November 27, 2022. He entered eternity, joining the love of his life, Minerva G. Salinas.
His life was deeply rooted in Alice, TX where he worked in the oil field industry, Alice ISD, and with the City of Alice. He utilized his lifetime musical talent in the 1950’s by playing bajo sexto with Conjunto Ideal. The conjunto toured throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, and Michigan where there were loyal Mexican American fans. This led to an opportunity in the 1970’s for him to organize the first Mariachi group in Alice, TX with Mariachi Los Galleros de Salinas where he also played the guitarrón, vihuela, and the violin. He finally retired with Mariachi Royal de John Vela.
In 2001, Edalio was inducted into the Tejano Music Hall of Fame. The recordings of Rodolfo Y Lalo have been preserved through the Frontera project, a collaboration between the Arhoolie Foundation, the UCLA Digital Library, and the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center. Recently, his recordings can be found on YouTube, Apple Music, and Spotify.
After retiring from the music life, he spent his time repairing mariachi instruments and accompanying his wife on various casino resort trips to Coushatta, L’auberge, and Lucky Eagle.
