Albert “Murphy” Allison, Jr.

Albert “Murphy” Allison, Jr., passed away on October 12, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Albert Murphy Allison and Constance (Lynn) Allison, and his brother, Mike Allison. Murphy was born on September 5, 1940, in Alice, Texas. He graduated from William Adams High School where he played football. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and an Eagle Scout. Murphy earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master’s degree in Engineering from Texas Technological College (now, Texas Tech University) where he was a proud member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Murphy returned to Alice and worked for Ed Nixon at Nixon Central Construction Co. which he later owned with his business partner, Pete Winston. He also served on the Alice City Council. Murphy enjoyed his years in Lubbock and his Phi Delta brothers whom he was especially happy to see in recent years. He also had fond memories of many camping trips to Big Bend with the Boy Scouts. Murphy was fortunate to have had excellent care provided by Lupe and Jesse Fuentes of Corpus Christi and appreciated their compassion and humor. His family is eternally grateful to them for being with him at the ranch the last few weeks. Murphy is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Drs. Jim Allison and Pam Sharma of Houston and Jim’s son, Robert Allison of Austin, Texas; his son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Chantel Allison of Orange Grove, Texas and their daughters, Haley Allison of Midland, Texas and Hannah Allison of Orange Grove, Texas; and his daughter, Constance Allison of San Antonio. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to MD Anderson Cancer Center are appreciated. Services are entrusted to Holmgreen Mortuary, 2061 East Main Street, Alice, Texas 78332. Alberto “Japo” Vasquez Sr.

Alberto “Japo” Vasquez Sr.- 67 years of age passed away peacefully at his residence with his loving family by his side. Alberto was born on July 11, 1955, in Alice, Texas to Rosendo and Dora G. Vasquez. He worked for many years as a heavy equipment operator for various oil companies of this area. Japo, as he was known to many, enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He had a passion for his yard and would find himself doing the cutting and trimming, for in his eyes he was the only one that could meet perfection with yard work. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and loved to see a good baseball game with the Texas Rangers. He was an active member of the San Diego Worship Center. Talissa Marie Garcia

Talissa Marie Garcia, age 29, entered this world on January 27, 1993 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born to Noemi Gonzalez and Olivero Garcia Jr. Talissa was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and granddaughter. Talissa was called to her eternal resting place October 8, 2022 at her grandmother’s home in Palito Blanco, Texas. Talissa attended Palito Blanco Elementary and graduated from Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco High School in 2012. She received many awards and her diploma. After graduating, she was employed with Whataburger in Alice and Goodwill in Corpus Christi, Texas. Talissa enjoyed collecting Ninja Turtle action figures and memorabilia, especially Raphael Ninja Turtle. She also liked collecting Hello Kitty. She loved dancing and exercising to Michael Jackson. Talissa would have a blast singing and performing on her karaoke machine. Talissa attended Open Door Church in Alice, Texas where she received Jesus Christ as her Personal Savior. Leopoldo “Polo” Canales Jr.

Leopoldo “Polo” Canales Jr., 77 years of age, was called home on Monday, October 17, 2022 in a Corpus Christi hospital after a sudden illness. He was born in San Diego, Texas on January 16, 1945 to his parents, Leopoldo and Dora Canales. Polo attended San Diego High School and was formerly employed as a bus driver for San Diego ISD. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports especially football and baseball and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leopoldo and Dora Canales; a brother, Luis Canales. Polo is survived by two sons, Luis Rene (Charlotte) Canales of Portland, Texas; Reymundo (Anita) Canales of Alice, Texas; two daughters, Linda Lee Canales (Rudy) Zapata and Adelina Canales both of San Diego, Texas; three sisters, Clara Solis, Adelina Gallegos and Linda Rosa Canales all of San Diego, Texas; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas with a Rosary at 11:30 a.m. that morning.
