The 23rd annual Grandparents and Other Relatives Raising Children Conference will be held on Friday, Sept. 9 in Corpus Christi at the American bank Center. Community partners of the Coastal Bend will set up in the conference center of the American Bank Center for the free half day conference.

Alice High School’s Class Battle of the Halls more than lived up to expectations Thursday morning as the halls of AHS were transformed into something out of a movie. Each class decorated a hall as part of the competition.
ORANGE GROVE - Officer Robert Vasquez represented Nueces County Constables Office Precinct 5 and Military Veterans at the Orange Grove Elementary School Thursday morning. The faculty and staff welcomed Vasquez and allowed him to mentor fifth and third graders who are the school’s Flag detail this year.
Alice Independent School District campuses celebrated Grandparents Day Thursday and Friday morning. Grandparents were invited at have breakfast with their grandchildren as they started their day.
Thursday, Sept. 8, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) announced plans to award more than $3 million in grants to support more than 420,000 students attending nearly 800 schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations in the communities Dollar General calls home. These funds aim to narrow the gap between learners’ needs and programs’ financial resources by providing books, technology, equipment or materials to youth education programs.
