VFW fundraiser successful

On behalf of the Alice Memorial VFW Post 8621 members and Auxiliary, I would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation and thank you to our cooks Rick Bernal and Raul Govea, John Cantu and our community for making our Pork Steak taco fundraiser held on July 16,2022 a successful one.

Elisandro Rodriguez

Elisandro “Chano” Rodriguez Jr., age 91, passed away July 17, 2022 in Alice, Texas. He was born April 29, 1931 in Alice, Texas to Elizandro Rodriguez Sr. and Trinidad Rodriguez. Chano was veteran and served in the United Stated Army and United States Airforce. He was a proud member of the Alice United Veterans Burial Association. Chano was often seen at Jalisco enjoying his coffee and being social with everyone. He was known for his social character, his captivating smile, and his love for dancing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Amparo “Amy” Chavarria

Alice, Texas - Amparo “Amy” Chavarria, age 62, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family after a long illness. Amparo was born December 18, 1959 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Juanita Aguirre and Francisco Garcia. Amy was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and loved spending time with all of her family. She loved to make everyone’s day special, especially during the holiday times. Amy always complained about cooking, but loved it anyways. She had a hidden talent that came out in the form of party decorating. She decorated for birthdays and weddings and just loved to craft anything in general. She loved dancing and hated sports. A special memory to her children is when she would sing “Your are my sunshine” to them. Amy worked for Hans Brothers Industries for over 15 years and considered Rodney and Scott Hans as part of her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law Jose Miguel Chavarria Sr., her mother-in-law Juanita Chavarria, and her brother-in-law Juan Pablo Chavarria.
