The rights of LGBTQ students would become enshrined in federal law and victims of campus sexual assault would gain new protections under new rules proposed by the Biden administration on Thursday. The proposal, announced on the 50th anniversary of the Title IX women’s rights law, is intended to replace a set of controversial rules issued during the Trump administration by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.

The proposed amendments will restore crucial protections for students who are victims of sexual harassment, assault, and sex-based discrimination – a critical safety net for survivors that was weakened under previous regulations. The proposed regulations will advance educational equity and opportunity for women and girls across the country to ensure that every student in America, from kindergarten through a doctorate degree, can achieve her dreams.

Abundant Life Christian Center in Alice held their annual Vacation Bible School June 20 through the 22. This year’s theme was “Finding Jesus under the sea: Diving deeper in our faith.” The children, ages 5-12, participated in Bible stories, games, food, and more.
BT Church held their first Toddler Bible Story Time Thursday with more than 20 children. Every Thursday until July 28, children ages zero to five are welcomed to learn about God and Jesus Christ.
