Supreme Court expands gun rights, striking New York limits

WASHINGTON (AP) — In a major expansion of gun rights, the Supreme Court said Thursday that Americans have a right to carry firearms in public. The justices’ 6-3 decision follows a series of recent mass shootings and is expected to ultimately allow more people to legally carry guns on the streets of the nation’s largest cities — including New York, Los Angeles and Boston — and elsewhere.

David Ryan Ramirez

David Ryan Ramirez “Chino” - 27 years of age, passed away on June 15, 2022, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born on May 4, 1995, to David Ramirez Sr and Hilaria G. Ramirez. Ryan was the best brother, uncle, son, friend, and most importantly DAD!! He was the best dad to Nathaniel. They were best friends, stuck together at the hip! Nate was his pride and joy, and he came before anyone and anything no matter the situation. Ryan was a beautiful soul. His smile and laugh could light up a room. He was hard working, so outgoing, kind, and the most patient person. He knew no strangers. He’d give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. He loved so hard, especially his family. He was the biggest family person! Ryan enjoyed sports and he was a sports fanatic. He was a diehard OU, Rockets, Mets, Astros, and Vikings fan. He liked working out and playing golf and cornhole. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends but more so his son Nathaniel. That was his happy place. They loved going to the ranch and being cowboys. He would always tell Nate, “It’s never goodbye but see you later.” Ryan will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Sylvia Ann Garza Parra

Sylvia Ann Garza Parra, passed away peacefully at the age of 63 on Thursday, June 16, 2022. She was surrounded by her loving family in her final moments. Sylvia was born on March 4, 1959, in San Diego, Texas to Roque and Emma (Fernandez) Garza. She grew up in Sandia, Texas on the Knolle farm. Sylvia attended Alice, Banquete, and Orange Grove schools. In those days she enjoyed being on the school’s spirit team. She married Jaime L.Gaza of Alice, Texas and had three children. They made a life together for several years in Alice. She later left Alice and for over a decade had resided in San Antonio, Texas where she made many friends. She loved gardening, crocheting, dancing and was a member of Cruz Blanca Club. Sylvia will be remembered for her contagious laughter, her big heart, her generosity and for the love she gave her family, especially her grandchildren.

WHO considers declaring monkeypox a global health emergency

LONDON (AP) — The World Health Organization convenes its emergency committee Thursday to consider if the spiraling outbreak of monkeypox warrants being declared a global emergency. But some experts say the WHO’s decision to act only after the disease spilled into the West could entrench the grotesque inequities that arose between rich and poor countries during the coronavirus pandemic.
