FRI., July 1 • Premont’s Veteran Association will have a 4th of July Celebration from July 1 – 3 at the Premont City Park. There will be different activities such as music, a 5K run and more.

The City of Alice was recently awarded a $300,000 grant by the State of Texas, acting through the Texas Department of Transportation TxDOT), Federally Assisted Airport (FAA) Development Grant for reimbursement for services for engineering and construction of a Quonset hangar at the Alice International Airport (AIA).

EDINBURG – U.S. Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley (RGV) Sector in conjunction with the Starr County Sheriff’s Office and various local law enforcement agencies recently launched a new initiative under Operation Stonegarden (OPSG). OPSG is a federally funded grant that provides additional resources to local, tribal, territorial, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in a joint mission to secure the United States’ borders along routes of ingress and egress from international borders to include travel corridors in the RGV area of operations. The 229th Judicial District Attorney and the Starr County Attorney’s Office support the collaboration.
AUSTIN – Drivers traveling for the July Fourth holiday should remember that state law requires them to slow down or move over when tow trucks and other emergency vehicles – police, fire, EMS and highway response trucks – are stopped on the side of the road with their lights activated.
AUSTIN – Analicia Zarate of Edinburg was four years old when she and her mom were headed home from church on a Sunday night. A drunk driver ran a stop sign and hit their car, killing her mom instantly. More than 20 years have passed since that tragic night, and Analicia still remembers every detail as if it happened yesterday.
Sheriff investigators recovered several firearms and a vehicle following weekend burglary. While investigators with the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a residence on County Road 3051 in Orange Grove.
