‘Most Significant Wildlife Conservation Bill in Half Century’ Passes U.S. House

On Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, to fund locally-led conservation projects to prevent wildlife from becoming endangered. If the bill is also passed by the U.S. Senate, Texas will receive around $50 million per year to help more than 1,200 species of concern, including Texas Horned Lizards, Guadalupe Bass, and Bobwhite Quail.

Workforce Solutions Coastal Bend secures TII and PATHS grants

Workforce Solutions Coastal Bend has once again secured funding for the Texas Internship Initiative (TII) and Pursuit of Advance Training in High-demand Skills (PATHS) Grants to fund amazing opportunities to our Coastal Bend Youth! In partnership with Education to Employment Partners, these grants will help fund the Emerging Professional Program by bringing customer-based training and forming connections to the local workforce.

Law enforcement recognized by Alice ISD

Alice Independent School District recognized law enforcement on Tuesday night during the school board meeting. The district and school board thanked law enforcement agencies for the assistance of the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Daniel Bueno, the Alice Police Department and Alice Police Chief Eden Garcia, and Corpus Christi police officer and Alice graduate Janelle Castillo after their help locally following the horrible school shooting in Uvalde in May.

Alice HS Strutters Social Officers win awards

Alice High School Strutters Social Officers won “Most Respectful, Creative, and Determined Award” and graduated from Social Officer Camp for completing all projects and tasks assigned to them. Dancer officers won “Most Creative Choreography, Disciplines, and Showmanship Award” and graduated from Dance Officer Camp after completing six hours of leadership training workshops, completing choreography 101 workshop, and 12 hours of dance workshops.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar Releases Texas Broadband Plan

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar today released his agency’s Texas Broadband Plan to support the expansion of broadband access for underserved and unserved Texans. The Comptroller’s Broadband Development Office (BDO) crafted the plan building upon the feedback that Hegar and BDO staff collected from Texans through 12 public town halls, 60 virtual regional roundtable discussions and more than 16,000 survey responses.
