On June 8, 2022 Petra ’Pat’ Garcia Martinez was called home to reunite with her loved ones. She was born August 29, 1933, she was 88 years old.
A woman of great strength and resilience. Her love for her family was something she always expressed. She loved seeing everyone thrive and grow in their own lives. She made sure we all knew she kept us in her daily prayers.
Our family gatherings were sure to put a smile on her face. The “barbeques” reminding us all of days in the backyard on N. Adams St. Hearing the singing and playing of the guitar along with games of horseshoes was the highlight of our evenings. Those of us that lived close always knew that going to Grandma’s, whether it be after school or for a visit, meant a snack; we all had our favorites.
She loved tending to her rosebushes and her bird feeders. Sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds was one of her favorite pastimes. We all have stories that we heard, stories of her surviving a rattlesnake bite, and growing up without the basic amenities. She was definitely one tough lady and because of her, we’re all better and stronger for it.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe Recio Garcia and Juventino Garcia; sisters, Yolanda Garcia and Guadalupe Garcia Cardenas; and brother, Joe R. Garcia.
