Four suspects arrested after West Dix Street raid

SAN DIEGO - Four people were recently booked into the Duval County jail after investigators located drugs and guns at a home on the 100 block of West Dix Street. On May 7, the Duval County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Moe Saavedra and deputies with the assistance of Benavides and San Diego Police Department, and Brooks County Sheriff’s Office executed a narcotics search warrant at the residence.

Alice ISD Sports Camps

Russell Alexander Chase

Russell Alexander Chase, age 81, passed away May 4, 2022 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born August 16, 1940 in Bangor, Maine to Roland and Pearl Chase. Russell worked for the telephone company for 30 years. He actively served in the United Stated Navy for 4 years and then another 25 years in the National Guard in both Maine and Texas. He had a love for bowling, traveling to play softball, and spending quality time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Ricardo P. Saenz

Ricardo P. Saenz, 91 years of age, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 8, 2022 in a Corpus Christi hospital after a short illness. He was born in La Mota Ranch to his parents, Federico and Rosa Saenz. He was a devoted Catholic and attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church in Alice. Ricardo was retired from CP&L as a warehouse foreman after 35 years of employment and after retirement he worked as janitorial and landscaping service. He enjoyed ranching, hunting, singing, and playing the accordion while having a few Natural Lights and playing chalupa with his family. Ricardo was a distinguished member of the McDonalds Coffee Club. Ricardo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and uncle who will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

Rene “Chato” Cantu

Rene “Chato” Cantu, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother made his entrance into Heaven to rejoice with the Lord, his family on Sunday, May 1, 2022. Rene served his country with pride with one tour of duty in Vietnam and then worked for Naval Air Station - Kingsville as a firefighter, where he eventually retired after 20 years of service. Rene loved being outside, farm and ranch life, gathering with family and friends, joking and laughing with his friends and family, and above all making his famous pan de campo. His pride and joy were his loving wife of 45 years, his three sons, and his grandchildren his will be sadly missed by all.
