Rene “Chato” Cantu, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother made his entrance into Heaven to rejoice with the Lord, his family on Sunday, May 1, 2022. Rene served his country with pride with one tour of duty in Vietnam and then worked for Naval Air Station – Kingsville as a firefighter, where he eventually retired after 20 years of service. Rene loved being outside, farm and ranch life, gathering with family and friends, joking and laughing with his friends and family, and above all making his famous pan de campo. His pride and joy were his loving wife of 45 years, his three sons, and his grandchildren his will be sadly missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amando and Evangelina Cantu; three brothers, Ruben Cantu, Amando Cantu Jr., and Gilberto Cantu; his in-laws, Raul and Amparo Castellano; brother-in-law, Jose Raul Castellano; sister-in-law, Annabell Castellano Bazan.
Rene leaves behind his wife, Patsy Castellano Cantu of Concepcion, Texas; three sons, Patrick Rene (Veronica) Cantu of Seguin, Texas; Amando Raul Cantu of Concepcion, Texas; Jaime Rolando (Bianca) Cantu of Ricardo, Texas; two sisters, Nelda Cantu Garcia and Elva Cantu Castaneda; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic we will be following all CDC and Government mandates and ask each guest to do so as well. We ask everyone to follow social distancing and wear masks inside the funeral home and church.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022 at Garza Funeral Home (4571 S FM 1329) in San Diego, Texas with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Concepcion Catholic Church (3605 Church St.) in Concepcion, Texas. Military Graveside Services and Interment will follow at Tienditas Cemetery (Hwy 339 and CR 267) in Concepcion, Texas.
