Reflections on ‘The Godfather’ as it turns 50

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the first “Godfather” movie. Celebratory retrospectives are ubiquitous. The film is lauded for its surpassing cinematic artfulness, unforgettable performances, snippets of dialog that have become iconic, and its depiction of the architecture of the acquisition and sustenance of power. About this, like Machiavelli’s “The Prince,” it is almost a manual.

Manuel Garcia Jr.

ALICE - Manuel Garcia Jr. passed away April 7, 2022. He was 65. Manuel was born on August 29, 1956, in Alice, Texas to Manuel Garcia Sr. and Ernestina Ramirez Garcia. He volunteered coaching the little league summer games in his younger years. Manuel worked as an EMT in Falfurrias and was also an EMT and a dispatcher in Alice. He was an Alice Firefighter until he retired in 2000. Manuel had a unique name; his friends called him “Eskimo”. He liked to travel and eat at his favorite restaurants. He later worked for Andrews Budweiser where he also retired after working there for many years. Manuel also worked as a DJ where he was known as “Iceman”. He was an avid Alice Coyote fan. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
