Sean Johnson, TAMUK SID
There are several new faces that didn't appear in the Javelina recruiting class release this spring that are in camp this fall.
Among them are offensive lineman Drew Harper (1st team All-District 19-5A, Aldine Nimitz), wide receiver Jared Dural (1st team All-District 27-5A, Corpus Christi Carroll), transfer quarterback and former Sinton star Daniel Ramirez (Angelo State, District 30-3A MVP in 2005), linebacker Anthony Smith (1st team All-District 24-5A, Houston Clear Brook) and placekicker Christian Brom (1st team All-District 30-5A, McAllen).
Also included in that list is New Mexico State transfer and former Calallen standout Glen "Scooter" Heim (1st team and defensive line co-MVP for District 31-4A in 2004), BYU transfer Ray Hudson (RB/Wharton), and Southeastern Oklahoma transfer J.R. Hausey (WR/North McKinney HS).
Back To The Gold
One Javelina football tradition is making a comeback. After dropping the gold trim from the uniforms at the turn of the century, the team has brought back gold trim around the numbers, sleeves and the word "Javelinas" on the front of the jersey. The Hogs wore gold trim from the 1970's through the 1990's.
There are several Coastal Bend/Corpus Christi connections to this year's team.
Two are from Alice High School, starting defensive end Jimmy Lugo and offensive lineman Andre Willie.
Three are from Calallen High School, starting linebacker and the team's leader in tackles from a year ago Mike Martinez (99 tackles), freshman offensive lineman Mike Mendez, and defensive lineman and New Mexico State transfer Glen "Scooter" Heim.
Freshman Robert McCormick (RB/Flour Bluff), defensive back Stuart Moffitt (Riviera Kaufer HS) and H.M. King graduate Orry Arthur (FB) round out the list.
For years the Javelinas have had great players from the Rio Grande Valley and this year is no different.
Heading the list is starting weak tackle Jorge Guerra (Roma), starting rover Clayton Cretors (Harlingen South) and starting safety Gilbert Almanza (La Feria). Guerra's backup is Jason Garcia (Brownsville Rivera).
Ryan Richardson (Edinburg Economedes) is slated to start at one receiver spot while Martin Carrion (Brownsville Rivera) is listed No. 2 at another receiver position.
Also from the Valley are Michael Aguilar (LB/Harlingen), placekicker
Christian Brom (McAllen), placekicker Jose Gonzales (Misson), Alex
Lozano (LB/PSJA), Joey Nunez (DL/San Benito), Diego Resendez
(OL/Misson), Brandon Ruiz (DL, McAllen HS), and Carlos Salas (OL/McAllen
Laredo United Connection
Backup quarterback David Garza, wide receiver Juan Camacho, defensive
back Danny Farias, running back Rolando Rodriguez and backup linebacker

Hosey (Pflugerville Henderickson) who earned a letter as a true freshman
Two players hail from Victoria Memorial and both are offensive
lineman. Tim Byerly is a red-shirt freshman that is #1 on the depth
chart at center, while sophomore Matt Short, who earned a letter last
year, is #2 on the depth chart at weak guard.
