Alice High School graduates honored by THSBCA

Two members of the Alice High School baseball team can say they were among the state's best.
David Towler and J.P. Garcia, both seniors in this season's squad, were recently named as members of the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association all-state team.
Towler was named to the THSBCA's second team as a pitcher in front of Calallen's Ryan Duke, while Garcia was listed as a third-team infielder. The two standouts were part of the reason Alice returned to the Class 4A state playoffs this season for the first time since 2002. With their help, Alice won its five-straight District 31-4A games, including one against the state-ranked Calallen Wildcats, to clinch a playoff spot.
Towler, who saw only limited playing time as a junior, emerged not only as one of Alice's top arms, but as one of the more dominate pitchers in the district. A left-handed thrower, Towler proved hard to hit. In the Coyotes' first playoff series this season against Mercedes, he struck out 15 batters while walking just one. Alice had three wins in the playoffs, and Towler was credited with two of them.
Garcia was a regular starter for Alice since his sophomore season. He started at shortstop and was among the team's top hitters.
