There's a saying in baseball which states good pitching always beats good hitting. That was the case Tuesday night in the District 22 Little League tournament at Bobby Cuellar Park in Alice.

The Freer all-stars' pitching staff combined for 14 strikeouts in an 8-4 victory over Kingsville American. The trio of strong arms included Jose Guajardo, Jacob Cantu and Norberto Cadena.

Leading Freer in hitting Tuesday night were Cantu and Javier Moncada, who each went 2-for-4.

Scotty Boone led Kingsville American on the mound. Josh Davila had a hit for Kingsville and scored two runs. Michael Guerra also had a hit.

Later in the night, Justin Martinez led Alice American to a 7-4 win against Falfurrias. He started the game on the mound where he struck out five batters and gave up just two hits. At the plate, he went 3-for-4. Oscar Resendez also went 3-for-4. Preston Valensuela went 2-for-3.

Freer advances to play Alice National Friday.

In the Junior League tournament in Bishop Tuesday night, Alice National was a 5-3 winner against Bishop-Driscoll.

In the night's other game, Kingsville American collected a 13-3 win over Benavides.

Wednesday night is scheduled to resemble rivals night as the two games pit Falfurrias against Premont and Hebbronville against Freer.
