Alice senior Justin Garcia represented Alice on the winner’s stand of the Tuloso-Midway Warriors Classic powerlifting meet two weeks ago by placing second in the 181-pound division. Garcia had a weight total of 1,335 pounds. Garcia had a squat of 525 pounds, a bench press of 285 and a deadlift of 525. He topped the entire team in weight total.
At the San Diego Brush Country Classic, Garcia was again Alice’s only first-place finisher. He won the 181-pound division with a 1,305-pound total, just five pounds in front of teammate Jesus Espinoza. For his efforts, Garcia leads off this week’s Alice Echo-News Journal’s Prep Honor Roll. Garcia had a bench press of 305 pounds, a 500-pound squat and a 500-pound deadlift.
• Alice High School’s Michael Johnson scored 26 points in a losing cause to Flour Bluff on Jan. 19. In the 52-42 loss, Johnson scored 11 of Alice’s first 13 points and had 19 by halftime.
• The San Diego Vaqueros had six first-quarter three-pointers to beat Premont, 68-38, Tuesday night. Cesar Trevino had three, Adriel Casas had two and Abel Perez had one — all in the opening quarter.

• Alice’s Chelsea Arredondo scored 20 points for the Alice Lady Coyotes in a 56-40 win over Laredo LBJ Jan. 19. She also led Alice over Flour Bluff with 19 points.
• Alice scored three minutes into their game against Corpus Christi?Ray Tuesday night on a goal by Franz Puyol. Alex Rodas was credited with an assist. Later, senior Jordan Harville gave his team its second lead of the game on a goal off a penalty kick. Alice went on and lost the game, 8-2.
