Banquete's Pop Warner football team is looking to accomplish big things as these future Bulldogs will compete in the South Texas Championship game this Saturday in Hornet Stadium at Flour Bluff High School at 6:30 p.m.

The winner goes on to the regional competition in Beeville to face, most likely, a Pop Warner team from San Antonio.

Banquete's opponent for the South Texas Championship is the Corpus Christi Wranglers.

Earlier this season, the Wranglers beat Banquete 32-14.

All 32 of Corpus Christi's points came in the first half alone.

Knowing that they have to face them again, coach Robert Perkins is keeping an optimistic view on his team's upcoming championship game.

"After losing to the Wranglers I gathered my kids and told them that it was not the end, and they shouldn't give up," Perkins said. "I needed them to keep fighting and it resulted in a good season for us."

This is the first year coaching the peewee team for Perkins and he is happy with the team's success.

"For living in a small community like Banquete, it makes us feel stronger that we can compete against some of the bigger Pop Warner schools," Perkins said. "It also makes us confident for the future of Banquete football."
